LIVERPOOL FC LEADS NEW ERA OF TRAINING TO TACKLE MATCHDAY SEXISM

Updated: Mar 11

Liverpool Football Club has taken another significant step in its commitment to inclusion and equality by hosting the first formal steward and hospitality training session delivered by Her Game Too’s Chief Operating Officer, Roopa Vyas.

The specialist session was delivered to approximately 100 matchday staff ahead of the Reds’ Premier League clash against West Ham United at Anfield, with a focus on tackling sexism and misogyny inside and around Anfield stadium – including addressing the difference between so-called “banter” and behaviour that causes genuine harm.

The training ensures stewards and hospitality managers now have a clear understanding of Her Game Too’s role, as well as what supporters can expect when reporting incidents of discrimination or abuse at Anfield.

By equipping frontline staff with the tools and confidence to identify and challenge problematic behaviour, the initiative strengthens the club’s wider safeguarding and reporting processes.

The session formed part of Liverpool FC’s annual Red Together Fixture – a celebration of the club’s equality, diversity and inclusion work – and comes at a particularly poignant time ahead of International Women’s Day.

Liverpool FC's Director of Impact, Rishi Jain said:

“Liverpool Football Club’s ongoing collaboration with Her Game Too is an important part of our commitment to ensuring Anfield is a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
“The training sessions delivered to key matchday staff were insightful, practical, and reinforced the critical role they play in challenging and responding to discrimination and abuse.
“We’re proud to continue our work with Her Game Too, to ensure our staff are equipped, informed and confident in supporting all fans at Anfield.”

The move marks a proactive shift from awareness to action, placing matchday staff at the heart of efforts to create a safer, more inclusive stadium experience. By formalising steward education around sexism and misogyny, Liverpool FC is helping set a new standard for how football clubs respond to discriminatory behaviour.
