HER GAME TOO ATTENDS GENDER EQUALITY EVENT AT HOUSE OF LORDS

By Faye Hackwell

Her Game Too’s Founder was invited to the House of Lords to meet Football Association Chair and FIFA Vice-President Debbie Hewitt, at a reception hosted by Women in Football.

The #OpenDoorsAgenda event explored how women can be better supported to reach senior leadership positions in football and how the Football Association can play a role in driving the football industry to tackle sexism and misogyny.

Caz May, Founder of Her Game Too, had the chance to discuss the campaign with Debbie Hewitt, who last year became the first female Vice-President of FIFA and is also the first woman to chair the Football Association.

Caz said: “I was so honoured to be invited by Women in Football, who have really helped to nurture, support and guide us at Her Game Too.

“We are still new in this space but we are very passionate about what we do, so we want to make sure we’re doing things to the absolute best of our ability and we cannot do that without support of the people who know it best, like Women in Football - especially Yvonne Harrison, their CEO.

“We are so grateful for the support they give us and it meant a lot to me to stand in that room with so many like-minded people, who all shared the same values, and to hear from Debbie Hewitt, who is a huge inspiration to all of us at Her Game Too as the first female Vice-President of FIFA and a true trailblazer for women in football.

“To have someone like Debbie Hewitt know about our work, and tell me she loves the passion that we have, meant a lot.

“It’s opportunities like this that are going to help Her Game Too to make even greater strides in achieving gender equality in football, so this was a really valuable experience I feel very privileged to have had.”

Women in Football’s annual survey of women working in the game found 89 per cent of those surveyed had experienced gender-based discrimination at work and 60 per cent said no action was taken when they reported it.
